Counseling for Eating Disorders
Eating disorders, including anorexia, bulimia, and binge eating disorder, are complex as they directly impact our physical and emotional well-being. However, I believe that full recovery is possible and I am passionate about helping individuals regain freedom, balance, and hope in all areas of their life. Through therapy, we can work towards understanding the functional role the eating disorder is playing in your life and explore the emotions, messages, patterns, and thoughts that contribute to the eating disorder. In addition, we can address the related problems such as depression, anxiety, addiction, self-harm, and/or body image concerns, and thereby move towards recovery.
When treating eating disorders I use a variety of tools and techniques tailored to your unique needs. This might include expressive techniques like art therapy and journaling, in addition to developing new coping strategies, and managing difficult emotions. I work from a Health At Every Size (HAES) and Intuitive Eating approach that puts the emphasis on a healthy relationship with food and body and reducing strict rules that tend to keep people stuck in unhealthy cycles. In addition, I feel strongly about a team approach to treatment, and will work closely with other mental health care providers to ensure the most comprehensive and holistic care possible.
